Transferring Domains

Transferring your domains to Above.com is a quick and easy process. Please note that you will need to add funds to your account or have your credit card details on file before you begin your domain transfer.

Important: All domains that are being transferred must be unlocked at the losing (current) registrar. You will also need to obtain an EPP Code or Authorization Code from the current registrar. If you are unsure how to unlock your domains or obtain EPP Codes, please contact the losing registrar for detailed instructions.

Transferring Domains In

Domains that support locking will incur a 60 day lock once transferred to Above.com. This is per ICANN policy and is aimed at preventing domain theft. When the 60 days has passed, the domain will be automatically changed to the client lock and then can be unlocked when needed.

To transfer a domain from another registrar to Above.com:

  1. Click the Transfer link in the Registar section in the menu.
  2. Enter the domain names you wish to transfer to Above.com into the text field, one domain per line. Each domain should be followed by a comma (,) and the EPP/Authcode.

Note: If you have more than 100 domain names you would like to transfer Above.com Domain Registrar, please check the Coupon Codes for further pricing discounts or contact us.

  1. Click the Transfer button to begin the transfer process. The next page will allow you to review your transfer list and provide you with the transfer cost for each domain. The transfer cost includes 1 year of domain name registration.

If you have a Coupon Code, you may enter it into the Enter Coupon Code text box and click the Apply button to receive a discount on your domain transfer.

  1. When you have finished reviewing your order, click the Place Order button to begin transferring your domain(s).

To view the status of your transferring domain/s, please go to the Reports link in the Registrar section and click the Transfer Report.

Transferring Domains Out

In order to transfer a domain out to another registrar, you will need to unlock the domain and obtain an EPP Code or Authorization Code to provide to the gaining (new) registrar.

Note: To move a domain to another Above.com account is called a Push and is free.

Unlocking a Domain
Unlocking a domain is the process of removing the client lock on the domain for the purpose of allowing the domain to change registrars.

Important: A domain transfer will fail if there is any type of lock on the domain at the time of the transfer request.

To unlock a domain:

  1. Click on the Manage Domains page in the Registrar section to view your domain details.
  2. Place a check mark beside the domain name you wish to unlock.

Note: Your Above.com account has to be verified before you are able to unlock domains. Registrar and 60 Day locked domains can not be unlocked.

  1. Click the More button to the right of the table to view the available actions for the domain.

  1. On the resulting window, select the option for Domain Locks on the left hand side and ensure that Unlock is selected on the right hand side.

  1. Click the Submit button to unlock the domain. The unlock process will be queued and be done in a few minutes.

Obtaining an EPP Code
The EPP Code or Authorization Code is unique for each domain name and is assigned by the registrar at the time the domain is registered. It is required when you would like to transfer the domain from one registrar to another. This code is used as a protection mechanism, to ensure that only the rightful domain owner can control the transfer of the domain registration. The gaining registrar will require the EPP Code when you initiate the transfer process.

To obtain an EPP Code:

  1. Click on the Manage Domains page in the Registrar section to view your domain details.
  2. Place a check mark beside the domain name for which you wish to obtain the EPP Code.

  1. Click the More button to the right of the table to view the available actions for the domain.
  2. On the resulting window, select the option for Request EPP Code on the left hand side and click the Submit button.

The EPP Code will be displayed on the resulting page. You will also receive an email containing the EPP Code. Please make a note of your code when you view it on the web page in the event that the email is not received.
