Q1 Domain Sale Prices Increase-Total Dollar Volume Down

According to DNJournal  first quarter 2010 sales report, total dollar volume was down 18% from same quarter 2009.  While overall volume was down, the median sales price show a slight improvement over both 1Q-2009 and last 4Q-2009.

The median sales price reported in 1Q 2010 was $2,643 as compared to 4Q-2009 that number was $2,610 and 1Q-2009 it was $2,600.  This suggest that the overall domain values have held up with slight improvement over the past 12 months.

COO Doug Brent leaving ICANN

brent-big.jpgICANN has announced this week that COO (Chief Operating Officer) Doug Brent will leave ICANN at the end of July 2010; he has worked with the organization since January of 2007.

Doug is stepping down due to family reasons and has described the resignation as ‘difficult’. Doug and his family moved to Los Angeles to be closer to the ICANN headquarters, his family has decided the new location is not for them.

CreditScore.com – Top Selling Domain for 2010

CreditScore.com was purchased by Mighty Net, Inc. owners of CreditReport.com for an undisclosed amount, although it was stated that the price surpassed the amount that Toys.com sold for in 2009.

Toys.com was sold through Bankruptcy Auction for $5.1 million dollars in March, 2009.

If CreditScore.com was sold for more than $5.1 million dollars, it places the domain at the number one spot for domain sales in 2010 and makes it one of the highest domain sales, ever.

Flying.com sells for $1.1 Million

flying.jpgUsedAirplanes.com has purchased Flying.com for $1.1 Million.

The new owners of Flying.com are currently developing the site to be launched on June 1st, 2010. The website will be used to display used airplanes and aircraft from UsedAirplanes.com. Flying.com currently states that it is “in the process of developing the first community and social media based portal for flying.”

Is UDRP really fair and unbiased ?

The UDRP is the procedure that is used when someone wants to complain about the rights to a domain.
While it was established by ICANN, there are several companies that share the disputes.
Each of those companies select a panel to study each case and make a decision.
However it seems that at least one of these companies may not be totally fair.

MakeUp.com Seven Figure Sale

makeup.gifThe website, MakeUp.com recently sold for a seven figure price to makeup company L’Oreal; the domain was transferred to L’Oreal USA Creative, Inc. in early March.

Personally I think the generic domain name sold relatively low.

L’Oreal is already one of the worldwide leaders in the makeup and beauty industry and acquiring this domain name will increase the success of an already successful company.
