Bodis confirms buyout of NamePros domain forum

Bodis confirmed it has purchased the popular domain forum NamePros after the story was scooped on the DomainGang blog.

Bodis owner Matt Wegrzyn posted that there would be "lots of improvements coming to NamePros" and that "the forum will continue to be open to everyone, even competitors of Bodis to post and advertise".

NamePros founder, Ron James, also confirmed and posted "Yes, I have struck a deal with Matt of Bodis. We are under nondisclosure agreement so I'm not sure what I can or cannot say about the deal we have in place but I will put out there that with better funding and infostructure, NamePros can only go up from here. The technical side has been a real challenge for me the past year. Hopefully this means no more downtime, slow pages or database crashes. I am staying on board as Administrator with my co-Administrator Michelle. More details will be posted as they become available..."

Congratulations to Matt and RJ on the sale!

.Co Domain Launch

With the Local Sunrise phase of the .Co ccTLD launch closed and roughly two weeks until the end of the Global Sunrise, Landrush (public availability at a price of around USD $300 per year) is not far away.

The Landrush phase is provided for businesses that do not hold a registered trademark for a particular name, but wish to protect their brand. This phase gives them the opportunity to register the .co variation of their existing domain, though owning the existing domain is not a requirement. Since this phase is technically open to anyone, many of the bigger domainers will be buying up valuable generic domains. The high price is designed to discourage domainers from snapping up too many domains, during this phase. If two or more people attempt to register the same domain during this phase, it will go into an auction.

3D movies have become popular again with the release of Avatar and it is safe to say that 3D technology will improve over a very short period of time. Many more movies are set to be released in 3D and we have the ability to watch television in 3D; even YouTube supports 3D videos now. But as technology evolves, you have to ask: Is it worth registering 3D domain names?

When registering domain names you have to keep in mind how fast technology is evolving and how far ahead of the craze you will need to be, as an example 3dtv.com was created 14 years ago. Someone had a lot of foresight 14 years ago...

The .xxx Extension

.xxx.gifThe ICM registry has won an appeal for an independent review of the .xxx extension.

The proposed TLD .xxx is suggested as an option for sexually explicit Internet websites. .xxx would be suitable for adult material, similar to .edu for education and .gov for government bodies.

The .xxx would be suitable for adult material, similar to .edu for education and .gov for government bodies. The appeal has caused controversy for both those for and against the introduction of the TLD.

The idea of .xxx would be to implement a way for those who wish to provide access to pornographic nature on the web and also make it easier for those who don't wish to view explicit material to block the websites. This would also make it easier for search engines to block .xxx websites.
