Moniker down

We have just been informed that the domain name registrar and auction house Moniker has been down for the past 15 hours.

It seems to be due to a hardware failure in their LA office.

The .xxx Extension

.xxx.gifThe ICM registry has won an appeal for an independent review of the .xxx extension.

The proposed TLD .xxx is suggested as an option for sexually explicit Internet websites. .xxx would be suitable for adult material, similar to .edu for education and .gov for government bodies.

The .xxx would be suitable for adult material, similar to .edu for education and .gov for government bodies. The appeal has caused controversy for both those for and against the introduction of the TLD.

The idea of .xxx would be to implement a way for those who wish to provide access to pornographic nature on the web and also make it easier for those who don't wish to view explicit material to block the websites. This would also make it easier for search engines to block .xxx websites.

Celebrity Domain Names

Similar to the Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods domain name rush a huge amount of domainers have been quick to register Brittany Murphy domain names, after she recently passed away.

Whenever something happens in the celebrity world or there is a celebrity scandal it make people buy domains names. Celebrities draw domain traffic; Paris Hilton is a celebrity known for scandals and KeywordDiscovery states that the search term 'Paris Hilton' is searched for approximately 19,398 times a day!

As soon as there is a scandal from a celebrity there is a sudden rush to register domain names appropriate to the scandal. For example, Tiger Woods has recently been in the spotlight for indiscretions he made and on the day the Wood's scandal was publicized, 30th November 2009, the domain name: TigerWoodsCheater.com was created.

Domain Auctions

You can purchase domains via various domain auction sites, these websites make it easier to buy and sell domain names.

A drop registrar is a domain name registrar who registers expiring domain names, to sell at auction, as soon as the registration expires. To participate in a drop registrar auction you need to register your interest prior to the beginning of the auction.

A domain auction site allows a customer to purchase a previously registered domain, which suits their needs, from an owner who wishes to sell their domain name. A domain auction site allows sellers to list multiple domains, easily and conveniently, on the one website.
