You want more money ? Develop the domain

Usually domain parking brings only a very low amount of money every month. If you are lucky, this amount may cover the registration fee, but this is not always the case.
You then have a decision to make:

namedrivelogo.gifSince launching in May 2009, 4526 domains totaling $4.64 million have been sold and successfully transferred using NDX Market's brokerage and sales platform.

Name Drive reported that 24 different TLDs have been sold on NDX Market. The dominant TLDs were  .com and .de domains, making up 40% of the sales between them.

abovelogo.gifThe Above.com Domain Parking Manager has reached and surpassed a major milestone this November. Optimizing and reporting on over 1 million parked domains. 1.2 million domains to be exact.

These domains are parked via 15 different Parking Companies and for good reason. Each domain parking service has strengths and weaknesses. Some are Google based and some are Yahoo based, some do better on US traffic, some do better on International traffic, some do better on adult or gaming domains others do better on travel or finance domains.

Are Trademark Typo Domains a good idea ?

trademarks.gifWith the amount of traffic that is generated everyday from people missepelling common brands, it may be tempting to register lots of domains containing words such as startbucks, macdonad or micosoft.
While this strategy used to prove successful when domain names first became popular back in the 1990s, this is now a very dangerous business.

DOMAINfest guests will have exclusive access to view Van Gogh's 'Irises', Rembrandt and even show off their own artistic talents in the DOMAINfest Art competition.

Great addition to the DOMAINfest Global 2010 agenda, January 26-28.

We look forward to seeing you there!

domainwatch.gifEffective as of 1 Dec 2009 DomainWatch.com.au the Australian drop domain service that competes with drop.com.au has advised that the New Minimum Bid is going to increase from $20.00 to $50.00 with increments of $10.00

It seems like that they wish to discourage the volume registrations that are most common. Those domains that you will give them a go for their $20  but not $30 and definitely not $50

This price increase is another good reason to use drop.com.au instead, as their minimum bids is $1 plus Registration so $23.10 (inc GST), before this domainwatch minimum bid worked out to be cheaper at $22 (inc GST).

$23.10 or $55.00 not sure about you, but   I know where I will be going for those domains that I am want to take a punt at.

How to estimate traffic

Apart from the revenue, the most important figure related to a domain name is the traffic it gets. Sometimes you just want a rough idea of the traffic of a site to decide whether the domain could be a good buy.

There are a few basic tools which can give you an indication of the traffic:

Register, Registrar, Registrant, Registry.. What does it all mean?

These are terms you've probably heard used, when talking about domains. But what do they mean? What's the difference? Although they sound similar, they refer to very different things. When talking about domains or reading articles about domains, these terms will often be used, so it is important that you understand what they each mean.

Microsoft is seeking exclusive content to draw users to its Bing search engine in an industry dominated by Google, which has about six times as many U.S. users. News Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch said this month he may block Google from scanning and indexing stories from his newspapers, which include the Wall Street Journal and Times of London.
