.mobi is a sponsored TLD which provides the Internet to mobile phones. .mobi domains are made to be viewed on mobile phone screens. .mobi registry is sponsored by Nokia, Samsung, T-Mobile, VISA, Vodafone, Afilias, Ericsson, Microsoft, Google and other international mobile identities.

.mobi was approved by ICANN on July 11, 2005 and then made available for registration from the 26th of Sept 2006.

As mobile phones replace every day computers it may be worthwhile for you to look into the .mobi extensions. Before purchasing a .mobi extension you need to deem whether marketing via the Internet will benefit your business.

ActiveAudience Becomes SmartName

The domain parking service, ActiveAudience recently moved all its services and users to SmartName. For previous ActiveAudience users, this means access to many more features (check out activeaudience.com for details). ActiveAudience users can use their existing login details to use SmartName, with all domains, settings and statistics unaffected.

This is also good news for Above.com Parking Manager users, as all previous ActiveAudience users can now use their accounts with Above.com Parking Manager (SmartName is already supported by our system).

Sometimes it makes sense to develop a website rather than simply parking it. This allows you a lot more control about the design and the content, as well as provide a site that is very different from all the other ones.
However if you want to make money using advertising, be it adsense or any other platform, it is probably best not to have a too good looking design.

Trellian and Above.com Acquires DomainState.com

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of DomainState.com, one of the oldest and highly respected Domain related forums online.

We do have a few good plans for the site, which we hope will further expand the DomainState.com forum success, for the benefit of existing and new members alike.

In short, we plan to maintain the forum, give it a little facelift and even add a few extra functionalities.

Above.com - New Parking Services: ActiveAudience & DomainSpa

We have just added two more parking services to Above.com Parking Manager: ActiveAudience and DomainSpa.

If you want to try these new services out, feel free to register for accounts by using the links above and adding them to parking manager. If you are not sure how to add new accounts, check out the Manage Accounts manual page.

We are currently performing final tests before allowing users to enable these accounts. These tests will take around a week. Please keep an eye on Announcements panel on the ashboard screen to find out when the testing is complete.

.Asia Domains Not Worth Much

People who have invested in the regional TLD, .asia will be disappointed to know that their domains probably aren't worth much. Recently sold at auction were five generic .asia domains, which did not sell for substantial amounts, considering what they would if they were domains of another TLD or ccTLD (like .com or .fr).

.CN domain names available to individuals

According to CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center), individuals will soon be able to register domain names under the .cn extension.

At the moment .cn names are restricted to companies. CNNIC explains their move by saying that individuals either fake themselves as companies or register abroad.

Credit.fr highest selling .fr domain name

Credit.fr sold for €587,500 (USD$851,875*) on Monday, January 11th, 2010 through domain auction site, Sedo.

.fr is the ccTLD for France.

Credit.fr selling price is 16 times higher than the second highest selling .fr domain name, OnlineBingo.fr, which sold for €35,000, also through Sedo, in 2009.

.info (Information) and .es (Spain) Domain Registration Specials

If you want to register a few domains and are willing to wait, keep an eye on the big domain registrar, such as Moniker, GoDaddy & EuroDNS, as they often have specials. Currently, GoDaddy and EuroDNS have some excellent specials on .info and .es.

GoDaddy has a special on new .info registrations (not transfers or
renewal). Their price is USD$1.07 (usually $9.98). The abbreviation info (for information) is recognised in many languages and .info there no restriction on the .info TLD.

European domain registrar EuroDNS has recently announced a 30% off sale for new .es (Spain) ccTLD domain registrations. The domain names are available to anyone who wishes to offer services, information or products that are tied to Spain. Either Culturaly, Historicaly, Socially or does Business with Spain.

Haiti Earthquake Domain Names

Internet users have been warned to take care donating towards the latest natural disaster, in Haiti.

The FBI has warned those wishing to donate money, to those affected by the misfortunate natural disaster, to not respond to unsolicited incoming emails and to be wary of those who represent themselves as a victim through emails or social networking sites.

It is important that you are aware when opening files of images from the Haiti disaster that they could contain viruses.

Associated Press has reported that "more than 400 Internet addresses related to Haiti have been registered since Monday's devastating quake'.
