Trellian and Above.com Acquires DomainState.com

domainstate-logo.gifWe are pleased to announce the acquisition of DomainState.com, one of the oldest and highly respected Domain related forums online.

We do have a few good plans for the site, which we hope will further expand the DomainState.com forum success, for the benefit of existing and new members alike.

In short, we plan to maintain the forum, give it a little facelift and even add a few extra functionalities.

Cheers

I am concerned, and worried that an Internet company of your size would waste such a significant amount of cash, on what anyone could create in a matter of hours.

The content is awful, the members more devoted to other forums/non-existent, and... well.. the website is simply put rubbish.

A 5 year old could do better, and save $50k.

Congrats on your new forum! Even though I personally haven't been an active poster on DomainState, it´s a nice forum with a lot of knowledge. I'm looking forward to seeing the, much needed facelift!

Congratulations David. Its good to see that the forum is in safe hands.

Thanks Johan and Simon,

Hi Tom, yes anyone create a forum, but it is not easy to get new members to join. Not sure if you have tried. To attract new members, you need:
- content
and
- awareness

both of which are missing from a new forum.

If it was that easy, there would be thousands of domain related forums all with tens of thousands of members each...

Look around at new forums and how much traction they have been able to achieve in 12 months... not much at all. To get traction we would have had to start advertising, link building, posting on blogs of the new forum... all of which would have cost more than the purchase price and still we would not be at the same level.

Cheers
David

Congratulations

I do believe the forum will continue to grow under your care.

All the best

Mike

Its easier to improve upon a "social" website than to build it.

Above.com could easily spend more than 50k trying achieve this. The URL is worth something, the members are worth something and it provides an ideal platform.

I didn't think domainstate.com was worth even 10k. However for your entity it is ideal and the synergy makes the price tag justifiable.

When all the people commenting are actually more successful in their businesses than you are then perhaps you should take note... but whats the bet they're not.

Good move.

Daaamn .. Tom if it's so easy then step up
show us how it's done then come back and post!

Hi Tom! Don't you think it is better for these two gentle men to aquire the site rather as the former owner was in need or tired of the free service and more so you as a domainer should know that the site was developed for money making and that the time was riped for them to sell it. Chears! Congrats! We are waiting for the new development.
