We all know that a domain name is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it, but what if they are willing to pay over $5 million?Toys.com was sold through Bankruptcy Auction for $5.1 million dollars in March this year. This places Toys.com at the number one spot in dnjournal.com's highest reported domain sales, so far, for 2009.
The toys store Toy 'R' Us purchased the domain name knowing that it had a constant flow of traffic, perfect for their brands. The domain now provides links to Toy 'R' Us brands: Babies 'R' Us, eToys.com, Baby Universe.com and Toy 'R' Us.
Candy.com comes in second on the list, sold privately for $3 million; more than $2 million less than Toys.com.To fetch high prices for particular domains you need to have the 'right' buyer and the auction needs to be advertised.
Before selling your domain, think about who the 'right' buyers are; then you are more likely to get the 'right' price.
